All bookings come with a packed SOL Play and Fine Arts Guide.

All performances last 1 hour and include a 10 minute post show talk-back.

Museum tours add an additional 45 minutes to the schedule.

Roanoke Children's Theatre, in conjuction with the Taubman Museum, publishes a teachers guides for each show. These guides provide ways for techers to integrate several SOL requirements into the complete experience of RCT and the Taubman.

On-Going ...

RCT offers a series of on-going programs at local schools:

At Fallon Park Elem. School and Hurt Park Elementary School and Westside Elementary School, theatre games and story improvisations are used to bridge many different cultures and explore diversity.

At Cave Spring Elem. School the art of theatre is a component of a vibrant after-school enrichment program.

An original play, Food For Thought, is used during PE class to promote healthy eating and exercise, addressing obesity and nutrition problems.

Roanoke Children's Theatre presents a unique way for your students to learn!

All of our shows offer student matinees that include art lessons and gallery tours of the Taubman Museum of Art that connect to the material in the play. Play and Fine Art Guides give you SOL related material that prepare your students for the field trip as well as lots of activities and discussion generators to do with your students after the event.

Announcing the 2009 - 2010 Season

The Giver
The Giver, October 6-11, 2009, By Eric Coble From the well known novel by Lois Lowry, The Giver is about twelve-year-old Jonas who lives in a seemingly perfect futuristic world and what he does when he learns the great price his community pays for such perfection.

For ages 10-adult
A special Teacher-In-Service will be held in association with this show, date and time TBD.

A Year with Frog and Toad
A Year with Frog and Toad (Dec. 15-23) Based on the books by Arnold Lobel Music by Robert Reale Book and Lyrics by Willie Reale A Year With Frog and Toad" is a musical based on the "Frog and Toad" children's stories written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. The musical follows the woodland adventures of two amphibious friends, a worrywart toad and a perky frog, with their assorted colorful hopping, crawling and flying companions, over the course of a year. This wonderful family musical that was nominated for 3 Tony Awards, celebrates love and friendship in a whimsical, entertaining , vaudeville style the whole family will love.

Boxcar Children
Boxcar Children ( March 11-21) by Barbara Field Adapted from the novels by Gertrude Chandler Warner This thrilling story is about four newly orphaned siblings set in the Depression era. When the children find out they're are bound for different foster homes, they run away in order to keep their family together. Pursued by the authorities and a mysterious stranger, the children discover the rewards and perils of life on the run as well as keeping their family together.

Junie B. Jones & a Little Monkey Business
Junie B. Jones & a Little Monkey Business (June 10-20) based on the book by Barbara Park Adapted by Joan Cushing The willfull Junie B. Jones has to contend with the unwelcome news that her mother is going to have a baby. As if that weren't enough, she also has the high-stress task of finding something to bring for show-and-tell. When the baby arrives, it looks like a solution to that problem, since her Grandma Miller describes the new arrival “as the cutest little monkey” — what could be better than telling the class about her new primate brother? A hilarious musical not to be missed.
